The need for an EPC
|

The European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2002/9/EC requires the implementation of the Energy Performance Certification of all properties by 1st January 2009. Therefore the UK Government, who are leading the campaign against Global Warming, implemented this directive, in the UK, through the Housing Act 2004.
The UK Governments target is to reduce CO2 emissions by 60% by 2050. Not many people are aware that buildings are the biggest culprit and that homes produce 27% of the total greenhouse gases in the UK. The Energy Performance Certificate provides information on both the energy efficiency and the CO2 emissions of a property along with useful information on how that efficiency can be improved and therefore reducing its carbon footprint. Improving a properties energy efficiency and reducing its CO2 emissions will also reduce the cost of running the home.
